Abstract

This article proposes a reinterpretation of Mário de Andrade's poetry in light of 21st-century academic and cultural trends. Within the framework of new studies on Brazilian modernism, we analyze interpretations that highlight previously overlooked aspects of the author's work, particularly his racial identity and sexuality. Drawing on Roland Bleiker's (2009) work, we challenge the traditional view of the author as an apolitical poet, proposing instead a reading that reveals his potential engagement with identity politics. By foregrounding these neglected dimensions, we argue that such perspectives not only renew the understanding of his work but also reinforce its relevance to contemporary debates.
