Abstract

This article addresses humanism in the 14th and 15th centuries on the Italian Peninsula. We analyze the role of humanists as public agents who prioritized the vita activa over medieval contemplation. We also explore the role of virtù in shaping the individual. In sum, we observe that these men sought to balance action and reflection, as they aspired to an ideal capable of achieving fame and glory.
