Abstract

This study aims to analyze how discipline and disciplinary power, as conceptualized by philosopher Michel Foucault (1926–1984), serve as a critical framework for understanding the scientific management of work developed by Frederick Taylor (1856–1915). Specifically, it examines the role of disciplinary mechanisms in shaping a corporate society grounded in notions of order and control, as envisioned by Taylor. The research employs a critical and comparative analysis of the selected literature and existing theories on the topic. The findings provide theoretical and conceptual insights to enrich the historical and contextual discussion on how Taylor’s techniques for managing life and labor were intertwined with practices that (re)produced disciplinary power over workers’ bodies and consciousness.
