Abstract

The discussion about trauma and memory, although not recent, is ever present and pertinent. Thinking on the possibilities of discussing and bringing awareness to the topic at hand, digital games are highlighted as a cultural product which spreads popular memory and history, as well as a new language that can be translated into the classroom in allowing the student to live through the narrative and interaction. Utilizing the concepts and previous works about memories of historical trauma of Marco Napolitano and Andreas Huyssen, the paper aims to elaborate on the idea of digital games as a historical source to talk about sensible topics. To further corroborate on this, our aim is to focus on the slavery shown on digital games and how can those games be useful on the school environment.

Keywords: digital games; historical sources; memory and trauma.
