Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between the world of work and the universe of popular culture in the city of São Luís do Maranhão, more specifically about the cordões de bumba meu boi. When working with the documentation referring to the license requests for the bumba meu boi destined to the chief of police, from the intersection with the newspaper sources, we started from the assumption that the bumba meu boi cordons, as well as other organizations established by workers, like mutual associations, were also an important form of associativism instituted by city workers.
