Abstract

This article presents the results of the research "Caminho fabril: patrimônio industrial da cidade do Rio Grande" about the mapping of the industrial heritage of the city of Rio Grande/RS. The research aimed to map the local industrial establishments between the period of 1873-2000, as well as to register the memories about the past and the industrial routine in Rio Grande. In this text we seek to understand what the work routine was like in the factories and how this industrial past is narrated and characterized. This analysis was done through written statements collected during the research. In conclusive terms, this article demonstrates the complexity of memory about work, which permeates between pain, nostalgia, joys, and sorrows. Such memories are seen as an intangible part of the industrial heritage and part of a local identity.
Key-words: industrial heritage, labor memory, industrial memory, industrialization.
