A CONFLICT IN THE THEATRE OF SÃO PAULO IN THE CORRESPONDENCE OF FERREIRA DE MENEZES AND MACHADO DE ASSIS

Abstract

This paper focuses on the correspondence of the academic José Ferreira de Menezes to the writer Machado de Assis during the year 1866, seeking to contextualize, through facts and events identified in periodicals, the negotiation, and conflict that guided the letters and involved the names of Joaquim Augusto Ribeiro de Souza, José Victorino de Azevedo, and Julia de Azevedo, artists from the theatre of São Paulo.
